Review: Laurent and the Beast by K.A. Merikan

Laurent and the Beast (Kings of Hell MC, #1)

— Nothing can stop true love. Not time. Not even the devil himself. —

1805. Laurent. Indentured servant. Desperate to escape a life that is falling apart.
2017. Beast. Kings of Hell Motorcycle Club vice president. His fists do the talking.
Beast has been disfigured in a fire, but he’s covered his skin with tattoos to make sure no one mistakes his scars for weakness. The accident not only hurt his body, but damaged his soul and self-esteem, so he’s wrapped himself in a tight cocoon of violence and mayhem where no one can reach him.
Until one night, when he finds a young man covered in blood in their clubhouse. Sweet, innocent, and as beautiful as an angel fallen from heaven, Laurent pulls on all of Beast’s heartstrings. Laurent is so lost in the world around him, and is such a tangled mystery, that Beast can’t help but let the man claw his way into the stone that is Beast’s heart.
In 1805, Laurent has no family, no means, and his eyesight is failing. To escape a life of poverty, he uses his beauty, but that only backfires and leads him to a catastrophe that changes his life forever. He takes one step into the abyss and is transported to the future, ready to fight for a life worth living.
What he doesn’t expect in his way is a brutal, gruff wall of tattooed muscle with a tender side that only Laurent is allowed to touch. And yet, if Laurent ever wants to earn his freedom, he might have to tear out the heart of the very man who took care of him when it mattered most.

I can not get enough of K.A.’s stories. I’ve never been a fan of historical fiction until K.A. put their spin on it. This book was angsty as hell. I was dying to know what the hell was going on. I was on the edge of my seat most of the time. I could have easily read this in one sitting, but life… Laurent and Beast’s story was extremely entertaining and swoony. I died laughing at all the misunderstandings and felt bad for just as many hurt feelings. Laurent was a total sweetheart. He was created to love Beast unconditionally. Beast deserved Laurent’s love. Beast was protective, smart, and a natural leader. I felt bad for him. He wanted so bad to be loved and accepted. I was praying he realized he would find that love and acceptance in Laurent’s arms. I was rooting for them. It was a bumpy ride, with some questionable characters and I could have used a few more sex scenes. But, I absolutely loved it. It was a definite great read. Thanks again ladies!

I really enjoyed this story!! Laurent was so sweet and innocent. I instantly fell for him. Beast had such a soft and generous heart beneath his rough exterior. Theirs was a whirlwind romance that was made difficult by their own reservations and inhibitions. They fell for each other immediately, but their past experiences jaded them from just accepting their instant connection. I was rooting for them throughout because they deserved each other. Laurent was able to look past Beast’s exterior to see the amazing man he was underneath it all. Beast recognized Laurent’s vulnerability and protected him even when he wasn’t sure what he was protecting him from. Their interactions were frustrating at times, but were also very sweet and sexy. Their sex scenes were super hot too!
