ARC Review: The Other Brother by Meghan Quinn

I got the call. The dreaded call every child fears. My dad wasn’t well, and the man who had always been my everything needed me.

There was only one thing to do; pack up and head back to my hometown. I had finally made my dream life in the city with the great job and loving boyfriend. But was there really a choice not to go?

I found a wonderful job, a quaint house to rent, my boyfriend was working on joining me in Binghamton, and my favorite pizza place was only miles away. Life was good.

Until I met my neighbor.

It’s been three years since I’d seen Aaron Walters, and my God is he all kinds of sexy gorgeous. Figures. He was supposed to be my forever, the man I grew old with, but he had different plans. How can a man who ripped my heart apart still trip me up? How can he make me still want him now more than ever?

I’m tempted, I’m drawn toward him, I’m completely and utterly unaware that I’m dating his biological brother.

Now two men own my heart. The question is, which brother will I choose?

Why? Why does he have to magically appear in my life? Moving back to Binghamton, I thought about the possibility of maybe running into him, but I thought it unlikely, something that would never really happen.

Boy, was I wrong.

What a sick joke life is playing on me.

Aaron Walters, the boy who broke me into pieces is my neighbor.

I can’t fathom the impact I feel already.

Seeing him in hip-hugging jeans and a tight, plain shirt did a number on me. It kept me up all night as memories of what we used to have flooded my mind.

His voice.

His stature.

The way he used to kiss my neck.

The way I felt so protected in his arms.

Too bad his arms couldn’t protect me from his devastating, heart-breaking self.

And hell, he looked good. Too good.

He’s always been tall with handsome features and a chiseled jaw, but now he’s bulked up to the point that I could see his abs flexing under his shirt, the same shirt that stretched over his biceps.

But it wasn’t his muscles or handsome features that once again made my heart ache, it was those eyes. So bright, so blue, so kind, but still so sad. It reminded me of the first day I met him, of the day he stole my heart from every other man on the market.

Broken, unsure, yet yearning for love. It was all there, and like experiencing a moment of déjà vu, I was transported back into a time when I felt invisible, like I could conquer anything with him at my side.

Once again, I was wrong.

First of all, we’ve met Meghan a few times over the past year and she is definitely one of our faves. She is such a fun and vibrant person and we love seeing her at signings. Plus, our husbands love getting boobs!

Now the book.

Such an easy read. This was a second chance romance which can sometimes be so cheesy and forced. This was neither of those things. This story drew me in right away. I LOVE Aaron. He’s sexy and sweet and so easy to love. The auxiliary characters were amazing too. Amanda was the perfect best friend. Tucker and Racer were perfect man friends. I don’t want to give anything away, so just read this book!

Meghan has sold me on the Romcom genre. Love her. The Other Brother was hilarious, with just enough emotion to keep me on edge. Aaron had me swooning like crazy. He was a sweetheart, but still gave me those alpha vibes I crave so much. I thought this was gonna be a love triangle, but I was so wrong. Like Jasmine said, it was a second chance romance. It wasn’t as angsty as other second chance romances. It felt like Aaron and Amelia were 2 friends reminiscing most of the time. It was comfortable, cute, and hawt at times. I really loved this one. After reading this book, I realized a couple of things… 1) tootsie rolls are the bomb!!! 2) When it comes to Little Debbie snacks, I’m an oatmeal pie, pecan twirl kind of girl!!! Read This!!!

***He wants a second chance. I want a divorce. To get what I want, I’ll have to give him what he does.***

From New York Times & USA Today bestselling author, Nicole Williams:

The only benefit I want from my ex is a divorce.

We got married for all the wrong reasons. The one thing we got right was our separation. I should have known better than to think I could bet on forever with a guy like Canaan Ford. Everything about him screamed impermanent, from his wild eyes to his restless soul.

When I left him and the small town I’d spent my whole life in, I swore I’d never go back. Never only turned out to be five years. Canaan claims he’s changed, but he hasn’t—same knowing smile, same rough demeanor, same body crafted from sin and sinew. And yet, something is different. He thinks this is his chance for redemption. My disagreement comes in the form of divorce papers dropped in his lap. He refuses to sign them. Unless . . .

He wants a month to prove himself to me—that’s his offer. One month to make me fall in love with him again and if I don’t, he’ll sign the papers. As much as I want to say no, I agree. I can suffer my ex for a short amount of time if that’s what it takes to be free of him once and for all. I fell for him once; I won’t make that same mistake twice.

He says we’re not over. I say we were over before we got started. Only one of us can be right, and I can’t let it be him.

“Canaan—”
Before I could attempt to figure out how to follow that, he lifted his hands. “I’m here to help. That’s all. No hidden agenda. I swear,” he added when I eyed the stack of packing supplies like there was a secret code I was meant to decipher.
“I don’t want to fight. Or argue. Or debate. Or anything else you and I could never stop going on and on about.”
“I don’t either.” He kept his hands raised for another moment before dropping them at his sides. “We didn’t always used to be like that, you know?”
“I remember. And then we turned thirteen and hormones got the better of us and we couldn’t seem to stop fighting.”
“I remember times we weren’t fighting. Lots of times.”
“The only times we weren’t fighting was when we were making out or making something.” I closed the door and cleared my throat.
“Fighting and fucking. We were damn great at both.”
If it wasn’t for the boyish grin he gave me right then, he would have gotten more than a grumble from me.
“We should have just stayed friends. That was the only relationship we were good at.”
“We never could have just stayed friends.”
“Why not?” I glanced around for a sweater to throw on, since that was the second time he’d looked at me like he had to convince himself not to misbehave.
“Chemistry. You and I had it.” He started folding the first box, his hands working with all of his attention directed at me. “You and I still have it.”
The warm jolt that shot through my veins whenever he came close confirmed his theory. However . . .
“You need a lot more than chemistry to make a marriage work. To make any relationship work.”
His shoulder lifted as he taped the box. “Of course you do. But a hell of a lot of chemistry sure doesn’t go bad with all of that other love, trust, and respect stuff. Does it?”
Grabbing a box, I put a good distance between us before starting to make it. “I wouldn’t know.”
Canaan stopped in the middle of yanking a strip of tape. “I felt like we had those things. Maybe not in the amount we should have, but I always loved and trusted you. And I respected the shit out of you too.”
I thought back to all of those nights I stayed awake, waiting for him to come home. My hand cupped around my telephone, whispering silent prayers to whatever god was listening at the time. I thought about the empty bottles and mornings of him not being able to recall anything of the night before. The scents of other women on him. I remembered tending to wounds and mending injuries.
Although the real ones that needed fixed I was never able to heal.
My eyes met his and lingered there. “You had a funny way of showing it.”
His mouth opened instantly, but it closed just as fast. He took a full breath. “I know.”

Mile High Author Event!!!!!!

We are really tackling this list. So far we’ve read 2 series and one book. We will be totally ready to meet these authors in September.

Room for You (Cranberry Inn Book 1)   Room for More (Cranberry Inn, #2)   Room for Just a Little Bit More: A Novella (Cranberry Inn Book 3)

This was an amazing series. Brody. Brody. Brody. That man was everything. He was so loving, protective, hilarious and sexy. I think I fell in love with hockey. I don’t normally go crazy over children in books, but the Twinkies paired with Brody were so much fun. I also love a nursing student or nurse in a book, since I’m a RN when I’m not reading. I loved this series. It was a fun refreshing read. I am excited to meet Beth in September…

Natasha

This was such a sweet series. And Brody was super sexy. I have 2 little kids, and I think the sexiest thing a man can do it be a good parent, even though he was maybe a little too soft. He was so committed to making the Twinkies happy. Plus he was the perfect combination of sexy, protective, loving, and romantic.

Heart Recaptured (Hades Hangmen, #2)

We miss Tillie!!!!!!! So we decided to post this review for Throwback Thursday!!!!!!!!!!!

I really love this series. I don’t normally read companion novels. But when I do its because I can’t get enough of the characters. And I can’t get enough of these characters or this plot.

This story was about Lilah, who saw beauty as a burden. I felt so bad for her. She was extremely screwed up. But her faith and Ky’s love saw her through. Kyler was amazing.
I am dying to know what happens in this story. The action is picking up. But I’m scared for whoever thinks they are strong enough to take on Flame…smh. What a mistake that’s going to be…lol.

I’m dying for Flame and Maddie’s story. This series is a must read.

This is going to be an amazing summer filled with TC!!!!!

ThrowbackThursday!!!!!!!

Guns n' Boys: Swamp Blood (Guns n' Boys, #3)Missing Our Boys!!!! This series was our first experience with this genre and it was everything. Here’s our throwback review!

This series is amazing! I am totally invested! This series made me forget every responsibility that I had. It has everything! Action, betrayal, love, friendship and ridiculously hilarious moments. Seth (my baby boy’s namesake) is a mess. I just love him to pieces. Dom is the epitome of alpha. These boys are so much fun! I can’t wait for the next installment! Book hangover is real!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
